We're Turning Heads!

One of the Career Centers most popular programs, Cosmetology gives students hands-on experience and helps them take the State Board Exam to become licensed cosmetologist* by the time they finish high school.

The two-year program in Cosmetology includes training and opportunities to work in the Career Center Cosmetology Salon. Besides hair styling and hair care, other areas covered include skin care, nail services, and artificial hair.

The Career Center has the latest technology in its cosmetology salon Cyberimaging. Students will be trained to use this software to show clients what they would look like with different hair colors, with highlights, or with different hairstyles. The class will take field trips to hair shows and area salons.  Successful students in this class have good communication skills, basic math skills for mixing hair coloring formulas, and basic computer skills. They enjoy talking with people and are creative.

*Note: In order to obtain a state cosmetology license, a student must pass the state examination and complete a specified number of clinical hours.

The Styling Salon at Jackson Area Career Center will open to the public
